Development Manager (P/T: 15 to 20 hours per week)

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience

PAWS NY is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps New York City’s most vulnerable residents to remain with their pets by delivering critical programs and services through a community of partners and volunteers. Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Manager (Manager) will spearhead development efforts as PAWS NY continues to grow. A new position in the organization, and the first dedicated fundraising position, the Manager will have the opportunity to play a critical role in the development and success of a growing organization. This position is funded through a one-year grant generously donated by The Valentine Perry Snyder Fund. Extending the position past the first year and/or converting to a full-time position is possible depending on fundraising success.

Primary Responsibilities

General/Individual Giving

  • Develop and execute PAWS NY’s annual fundraising plan, including our annual holiday appeal, in collaboration with ED
  • Maintain/Update DonorPerfect records
  • Prepare and send acknowledgment letters 

Institutional Support

  • Conduct prospect research and identify potential foundation and corporate funders
  • In collaboration with ED, prepare and write letter of inquiries, proposals and reports
  • Manage fundraising calendar and track deadlines relating to proposals/reports

Special Events

  • Assist ED and Board with special events, including annual fundraiser and other events
  • Help secure auction items, manage guest lists, and more

This is a perfect opportunity for a motivated graduate student to join a small and innovative team. He/she must have writing experience, and must be highly organized, friendly, and have the ability to function independently. The candidate should be enthusiastic, proactive, and creative. Demonstrated understanding of fundraising best practices and tools is also a must. The candidate should have proven interest in helping both people and animals. Candidates must be able to successfully manage multiple projects from start to finish while maintaining attention to detail. While it will be important to work from our Brooklyn office for at least part of the week, partial remote work (work-from-home) might be considered. BA required, MA a plus.
