FULL-TIME DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Position

PAWS NY is hiring the organization’s first full-time Development Manager.  The Development Manager will report to our Executive Director (ED) and will be joining our small and passionate team of five. We are seeking a fundraising professional who has knowledge of and experience in all areas of Development and feels comfortable taking the initiative needed to build new development programs from the ground up.  The Development Manager will be responsible for formalizing and diversifying our fundraising efforts with an eye toward sustainability and will help set the organization up financially so that we can expand our programmatic footprint throughout New York City.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning (5%)

• In collaboration with our ED and Board, create and execute a Development Plan that utilizes all facets of fundraising and is aligned with the organization’s strategic plan

Individual Donor Relations (50%)

• Develop and implement a plan aimed at growing our individual donor base
• Build out our Constant Companion monthly sustainer program
• Manage and grow our annual fund, including our annual holiday campaign and other online fundraisers throughout the year
• Collaborate with program staff to identify campaign opportunities and content for fundraising appeals
• Identify, research, cultivate and steward mid-level donors and prospects
• Maintain regular communication with key individual supporters

Institutional Giving (30%)

• In collaboration with ED, cultivate and maintain relationships with corporate and foundation donors
• Research and evaluate potential funders and related grant opportunities using Foundation Directory Online and other resources
• Draft LOIs and proposals with assistance from program staff to assist in securing both general operating support and restricted programmatic funding
• Maintain regular communication with key corporate and foundation funders
• Track activities, including proposal and reporting deadlines, within database
• When needed, work with ED, Program Director, and Board to prepare grant budgets

Database Management and Administration (5%)

• Utilize database to track metrics such as donor retention rate to help prioritize individual donor groups
• Ensure timely processing of donor tax receipts and acknowledgements
• Enter offline gifts into database
• Manage donor database within Salesforce to track gifts and aid in donor stewardship
• Assist ED in preparation of information and documentation for bi-monthly Board meetings

Other Responsibilities (10%)

• When needed, assist with event related tasks, such as auction and sponsorship solicitation and day-of logistics and management
• Attend select professional development events throughout the year in order to both enhance knowledge and connect with peers in the field
• Assist with other projects and tasks as specified by Executive Director

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of direct fundraising experience, with particular focus on individual donor cultivation
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Excellent computer skills, and knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
• Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and complete tasks on time
• Ability to work in a small, start-up like environment
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Commitment to our mission

ASPCA Provides Program Expansion Support to PAWS NY
Grant Will Help Keep Pets at Home and Out of Shelter 

New York, New York – Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS NY) today announced that The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is funding its program expansion efforts. The generous $30,000 grant will provide funds this growing organization needs to help our city’s most vulnerable residents remain together with their pets.

“Many of our city’s most marginalized residents, including seniors and individuals living with an illness or disability, worry their health and limited finances mean they will be forced to give up their pet.  It’s heartbreaking, and we are doing everything we can to help keep pets at home where they belong,” said Rachel Herman, Founder and Executive Director. “Thanks to the ASPCA’s generous support, PAWS NY will be able to expand our programmatic footprint by increasing the number of people and pets our programs serve. The unconditional love of a pet is such a remarkable thing, and our clients are living longer, healthier, and happier loves because of it. We are honored to have the ASPCA’s partnership in these important efforts.”

”A recent ASPCA study estimates that over 1 million households re-home their pets each year, many for reasons that could have been resolved through accessible veterinary care, pet-friendly housing and access to other supplies and resources,” said Allison Cardona, senior director of the ASPCA’s Cruelty Intervention Advocacy (CIA) program. “PAWS NY is addressing this issue head-on by connecting pet owners with services that are helping to keep pets in safe and loving homes where they belong.”

Support from the ASPCA will fund a new program staff position, which will provide the support the organization needs to deliver services to an increased number of clients who are most at-risk of surrendering their pets.  Through its Housecall Program, PAWS NY will assist new clients with dog walking, cat care, vet transport, and other daily needs. Assistance through our Pet Pantry and Veterinary Care Program will be provided as well, in addition to emergency or foster care for pets in the event their guardian is hospitalized or facing a medical emergency.  Together, our programs provide the safety net needed for our clients and their pets to remain together.
