David Merrell, Institutional Giving Manager

David, a white male in a Seattle Mariners cap, grey jacket, and jeans, holds two older dogs while standing on a beach.

David (he/him) is originally from Seattle, Washington, but is now reaching his ten-year mark in New York City. He has been surrounded by animals his whole life, growing up with dogs and cats.

While earning his degree from New York University, David worked as a dog walker and sitter, where he took care of dozens of canines across Manhattan and Brooklyn. After graduating, he utilized his degree in Creative Writing and Literature to write various pieces for pop culture outlets such as Screen Rant. Having served many years volunteering for such organizations as Lifelong AIDS Alliance, David has always had a passion for serving vulnerable individuals and underserved communities. Having previously worked in grants management for a nonprofit that breaks cycles of poverty, David is eager to bring his passion for humans and animals to work at PAWS NY as the Institutional Giving Manager.

David has two dogs he rescued, Harpo and Quasi. After learning they were brothers who were stranded on the street, he decided to not separate them and took them both home, and they have been his wonderful support ever since! In his spare time David loves reading books, listening to music, and watching movies and tv, with his dogs by his side.
