Sadly, two longtime clients of PAWS NY passed away recently, and we are looking for a new home for their sweet pets: Gigi and Baby Boy. Are you interested in adopting either of them? 

Sweet Gigi is a senior Shepherd Mix who is super friendly and smart. She loves to be around people and is good with other dogs, and she needs some extra love as she lives out her golden years.

As a senior pup, Gigi deals with joint pain and is on a few daily medications. She doesn’t do well with stairs, so a home without steep steps would be ideal. We’re also hoping her fur-ever home will be with someone patient and strong, who can give her an occasional boost on her walks. 

Update as of December 20, 2023: Baby Boy has been adopted!

Handsome Baby Boy is also looking for a new home. A neutered, mellow senior cat who loves attention, Baby Boy hasn’t lived with other pets, but would likely be fine with other calm and friendly pets in the home. He is healthy and would make a wonderful, low-maintenance animal companion.

Lucky

Lucky is a male tuxedo cat, neutered, and 10 years old. April is a female Domestic Short Hair, neutered, and 8 years old. Both are up to date on shots with no health issues.

 

Lucky and April are nervous around new people and it will take them both a while to feel comfortable in a new environment so we are looking for a relatively quiet home with no other pets or young children. They like to have safe places to hide around the apartment and are usually together.

These gentle souls have slowly been getting more comfortable in their foster home and coming out to interact with their foster mom so we need someone who can continue to show them patience and love.

Janeau is a mellow 13-year-old neutered, medium-hair cat whose favorite pastime is lounging in his cat tree! At the beginning of the summer, Janeau’s guardian sadly passed away, and we’re looking for a fur-ever home for this paws-itively sweet senior cat!

For many years, Janeau lived with a dog, but the two didn’t bond too much, and in his foster home, Janeau has shown signs of wanting to maintain boundaries when it comes to the other two cats in the home. We think a home with a very low-key dog or no other pets would be best for him.

Currently in good health, Janeau had thyroid removal surgery about a year and a half ago that eliminated most of his health challenges, and recent blood work showed his levels are looking good. He is on prescription food that helps to keep him on the right track!

Janeau’s guardian told PAWS NY many times that she considered her pets her children and that she would do anything for them. While she was in the hospital, she asked PAWS to make sure to find Janeau and his dog sister a great home in the case that she passed away, and we said that we would. We’re so grateful to our wonderful foster volunteer who has been providing foster care for her cat, Janeau, and are now ready to find him a forever home!

From Janeau’s Foster:

“Janeau has really blossomed over the past two months and grows more playful, loving, and interactive every day! He is a big guy (close to 20lbs) but is gentle and timid. Handsome Janeau takes very good care of his grooming, his toilet habits, and has a healthy appetite for his special ‘kidney-friendly’ diet.

He is a well-mannered companion who loves being spoken to, enjoys a brush, tolerates the occasional snuggle, and engages in short play sessions in between his naps. Patience and calm would be key with him – he is worth it. He is definitely a special fella.”

Foster or Adopt Lucy

Lucy is a beautiful 12-year-old White Russian cat who has been a loyal and loving companion to her guardian for the past three years. Her guardian will be moving into a long-term care facility. Per her wishes, we’re hoping to find Lucy a forever home that will take great care of her.

Very calm and sweet, Lucy enjoys pets on the head. Most of the time you’ll find her cuddling or snoozing, and she occasionally likes play time with a laser pointer or a feather toy. Aside from a benign cyst on her head that doesn’t bother her much, Lucy is quite healthy for her age. She does not get along well with other cats and has never lived with dogs, so would do best in a home with no other pets. At the moment, Lucy is in a foster home, but will need to be moved to a new foster home later this month while we finalize her adoption.

Lucy’s current foster says, “Lucy adjusted to my apartment really quickly! She’s met several of my friends and is friendly and sweet, rubbing on their legs for attention and pets. We’ve also had fun playing with her using a cat teaser toy. Throughout the whole workday, she likes to sit with me on the couch and snooze away while periodically checking in on me for attention and pets. Otherwise, she likes to assess my place and get up on the window to look out. When I walk to the kitchen or anywhere, she likes to follow and stay close.”

Casey Needs a Fur-Ever Home

UPDATE: Casey has been adopted and is in his fur-ever home!

Casey is a very handsome and charming 4-year-old gray, domestic shorthair cat who is super social and curious! Unfortunately, his guardian’s health issues now prevent her from giving him the attention and stimulation that he requires, and she has made the difficult decision to find him a new home.

Casey is eager to play and sometimes swats/scratches out of excitement. We hope this behavior will lessen with regular mental and physical exercise, so we are seeking an adopter with a good deal of cat care experience. Casey should be the only pet in the home or be able to be slowly introduced to other pets.

Of Casey, his current foster says, “Casey has an easygoing personality and has adapted well to his new place. Generally, he’s quiet and doesn’t meow very much, but he will make his needs known by rubbing his head against your knees and ankles or rubbing his face to yours when he’s on a tabletop. He welcomes strokes near his face and back but can get overstimulated. At this point, he has become more social sitting on the sofa, and now sleeps on the bed. Lastly, he likes to play with his toys and welcomes you joining in for a bit.”

This senior cat had a lonely year and we need your help to give him a safe, loving home to live out his golden years! 

A 13-year-old, neutered, short hair cat, Sparrow has lived with his guardian for his whole life. Although he and his cat-mom had a good relationship, he can get scared and hide around new people. Our client always said he is a sweet soul who just needs time to get to know someone. 

Sparrow has been predominantly alone since the fall, aside from the few people who cared for him throughout the week. His guardian has been in the hospital and rehabilitation facilities, and will not be able to come back home. Therefore, she made the hard decision to surrender Sparrow for adoption. 

Sparrow will need a quiet, safe place to acclimate to being around people again. PAWS NY is looking for a foster home with no other pets that can show him plenty of patience and love while we find his new forever home.

Shy but very sweet, Baby had a recent vet exam, where she received a clean bill of health and all her shots. Baby also got a bit of a haircut to shave off some matted fur (see her “after” pic), so will be rocking a unique look while her hair grows back in.

One of our wonderful volunteers has been fostering Baby and her sister for several months and gotten to know them well. She has noticed that they both seem more comfortable when separated, so we are looking for a home for Baby with no other pets. We hope that in a new environment, Baby can thrive and be herself.

Baby’s current foster has noticed that when she is on her own, Baby is more outgoing and comes out to play and snuggle: “If you’re in bed, she’ll come headbutt you until you give her pets and scritches.”
